Laphag Nunnery in Tibet

Laphag Nunnery in Tibet is the sister nunnery to Khampagar Monastery - the seat of Khamtrul Rinpoche. Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo’s main teacher, the previous Khamtrul Rinpoche, requested Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo to create Dongyu Gatsal Ling Nunnery. The current Khamtrul Rinpoche asked her to support Laphag Nunnery and so it has a special connection to Dongyu Gatsal Ling Nunnery. Since 2006 Jetsunma Tenzin Palmo has been helping the nuns at Laphag Nunnery by building simple dwellings on land provided near Khampagar Monastery in Tibet. The nuns spend several months a year at these dwellings to receive teachings, then return to their nunnery for practice and retreat.

At the site of Laphag Nunnery, the nuns live in cotton tents and practice through the harsh winters at high altitude. In addition to raising funds to provide the nuns with basic supplies, Jetsunma is now raising funds to build individual retreat huts for each of the nuns. Currently, there are around 100 nuns at Laphag Nunnery, with a wait list of 200 young women waiting to join the nunnery once facilities are available.

The estimated cost for each dwelling is $2,000. Dongyu Gatsal Ling Initiatives wishes to help these Tibetan nuns and invites you to be part of the merit of building Laphag Nunnery.
